Omotayo Hassan

Omotayo Hassan is a corporate and project finance professional with 20 years of experience leading transactions, particularly in the power and utility sector. He has successfully advised governments and corporations on mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructurings, and the procurement of large-scale power generation projects.
Omotayo has extensive experience in business development and contract negotiations with major utilities and private power developers, working with Fortune 500 corporations in the United States and power and utility consulting in Nigeria.

Omotayo has provided technical, commercial, and financial consulting to the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading PLC (NBET) under the Power Africa Transactions Reforms Program (PATRP), managed by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) since NBET’s inception. He previously worked at Constellation Energy as Operational Finance Senior Manager, at Verizon Communications as a Manager in Corporate Finance,
and earlier as a Specialist in Financial Planning and Analysis. As an Embedded Power Africa Transaction Advisor for NBET PLC, Omotayo collaborated with Independent Power Producers on their project finance models, negotiated commercial terms, and worked closely with regulatory staff on power procurement and generation issues. He supported the development of NBET’s regulatory positions on power procurement and maintained an advanced understanding of the electricity supply marketplace.

In his role as a USAID Embedded Senior Commercial Transaction Advisor for the National Integrated Power Project (NIPP) privatization, Omotayo provided advisory services to the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC), which is responsible for privatizing NIPP power plants, transmission, distribution, and gas assets. His responsibilities included advising on the optimal structure and implementation process for privatization,
conducting legal, technical, and financial due diligence, preparing transaction plans and bidding documents, and managing transactions for 10 gas-fired power generation stations with a total capacity of 5,000 MW, along with related gas pipeline, flow station projects, and transmission and distribution assets.

Omotayo was a Director at JCM Power, an independent power producer focused on renewable energy development in growth markets. He oversaw all project and business development, as well as operations in Nigeria and West Africa. Currently, Omotayo is the “General Manager /Renewable Explorer” at TotalEnergies Renewables DG Nigeria, where he is responsible for initiating and/or accelerating the development of renewable projects in Nigeria, including solar, wind, and other renewable technologies.
