Mr. Tunde Gbajumo is an experienced power sector reform professional with a 26-year career in independent power project development and energy finance that has spanned across geographies including Nigeria, Ghana, Mauritania, Tanzania, Liberia, and the Republic of Benin.
He serves as the Deputy Chief of Party for the Nigeria Power Sector Program (NPSP) which is Power Africa’s signature initiative for Nigeria. Prior to his role with NPSP, Mr. Gbajumo was the CEO and Board Member of Symbion Power, where he managed the company’s investment in the 975MW Ughelli Power Plant and the development of 140MW of electricity in Nigeria, 450MW in Ghana, and 100MW in Equatorial Guinea. Mr. Gbajumo previously worked as the Commercial Director and Board Member of AES Nigeria Barge Limited, a subsidiary of AES Corporation, USA, and was involved in overseeing the development of the 300MW AES power plant in Lagos which is acknowledged as the first IPP in Nigeria. In addition, Mr. Gbajumo was a member of the Energy Committee of the Nigerian Presidential Vision 2020 Program, where he co-authored the report that led to the power sector reform program.
He holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Wales and a Bachelor’s degree (Economics) in Accounting and Financial Management from the University of Buckingham, United Kingdom.
